The CW’s Nancy Drew cast another 90’s star, Freddie Prinze Jr. as Nancy’s father. He joins the likes of Molly Ringwald and the late Luke Perry, revived 80s and 90s teen/young adult stars as parents in current CW shows.
Prinze starred in 90’s teen/young adult movies such as She’s All That and I Know What You Did Last Summer. He also appeared in the Scooby Doo live action movies and was last seen in on Fox’s 24 in 2010.
Prinze will play Carson Drew, “a dynamic attorney who has become estranged from Nancy following the recent death of his beloved wife. His attempts to reconnect with her run aground when Nancy’s murder investigation reveals unsettling secrets from Carson’s past,” according to THR.
Nancy Drew stars Kennedy McMann as Nancy, Leah Lewis, Tunji Kasim, Maddison Jaizani and Alex Saxon. Based on the beloved teen detective novels by Carolyn Keene, Nancy Drew will center on an 18-year-old Nancy Drew, beginning after her high school graduation. Instead of leaving for college, a family tragedy keeps her in her hometown another year. Nancy finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation while also doing some digging into town secrets herself. The CW ordered a pilot back in January.
The pilot writers and executive producers are Noga Landau, Melinda Hsu Taylor, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage . Larry Teng is an EP and director for the show, and Lis Rowinski is a co-exec producer.
The CW’s Nancy Drew is currently in development.
