The CW announced an early renewal for thirteen scripted series, including all of the CW Arrowverse shows and many others.
The Flash returns for season seven. Supergirl and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will return for their season six. Black Lightning returns for season four and Batwoman will be back for season two. One new Arrowverse series, Green Arrow and the Black Canaries will air the backdoor pilot after this year’s crossover. Another DC Comic series, Stargirl is also set to premiere sometime this year.
Other CW shows with early renewals include Nancy Drew, All American, Charmed, Dynasty, In the Dark, Legacies, Riverdale, and Roswell, New Mexico. Riverdale spinoff Katy Keene also received an order of an additional thirteen episodes. Katy Keene premieres on February 6, 2020.
Deadline.com reports a possible writers strike in the works. Which could explain the early renewal. CW President Mark Pedowitz stated the renewals will give shows a head start on plotting out the story arcs and hiring new staff. Pedowitz added, “We’ve been thrilled with the creative direction of all three new series, and even though we are in the very early stages of our new full stack streaming strategy, which allows viewers to catch up on our new shows from the beginning, we’re already seeing incredibly positive results from our multi-platform viewership for Nancy Drew and Batwoman.”
The CW will say goodbye to one of the longest running series in television history, Supernatural, the Arrowverse flagship series Arrow, and The 100 this spring. The Arrowverse will conclude the massive crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths next Tuesday, January 14.
