The next CW crossover just got bigger with the announcment of Batwoman joining Team Arrowverse!  Batwoman will be joining Supergirl, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and Arrow to save the world.  This will be the first time that Batwoman has appeared on any screen in the DC universe.

Arrow star Stephen Amell made the announcment during the CW Upfronts.  Amell stood in front of the cover art for the crossover that features a Bat signal in Batwoman’s red colors.

“For the very first time appearing, we’ll be fighting alongside Batwoman, which is terrific. The crossover is going to make it to air in December. I need to leave right now and start filming it.” – Amell

There are currently two versions of Batwoman in the DC comics. The first, Kathy Kane was introduced in 1956 and was primarily created as a love interest for Batman/Bruce Wayne.  The second debuted in 2006 as Kate Kane and has become the comic’s most high profile LGBT heroine.  Interesting fact: Maggie Sawyer is the name of Kate’s love interest in the comics and the name of Alex Danver’s (Chyler Leigh) ex-finacee on Supergirl.  Could Batwoman be a part of Supergirl’s National City soon?  It’s also possible Batwoman could become a Legend as well.

Both Supergirl and Arrow have eluded to the existence of Bruce Wayne.  Since Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) is from a different Earth than the Green Arrow, that means there are two versions of Gotham City.  No details as to which Earth Batwoman will come from, but it won’t be long before we find out according to CW boss Mark Pedowitz

“We are adding the city of Gotham into the Arrowverse.  This will be another full-throttled, action-packed event.” – Pedowitz

With the addition of Batwoman and Gotham City, the Arrowverse is sure to bring more exciting stories to the CW.  During the Upfronts, the CW also announced the fall line up for the Arrowverse shows. Supergirl will headline the newly added Sunday nights.  DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Arrow will air back to back on Monday nights.  And The Flash will return to its usual time slot on Tuesday nights. I have to wonder if there will be room for a Batwoman series in the near future?

The Arrowverse shows are wrapping up their current seasons. The Arrow season six finale airs Thursday, May 17.  The Flash season four finale airs on Tuesday May 22.  And Supergirl is in the middle of season three, with the finale scheduled for Monday, June 25.  DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is on hiatus until season four starts in the fall.

The next CW Crossover event is scheduled for December 2018.  Are you as excited about Batwoman as we are? Let us know what you think and keep an eye out for all things Arrowverse on Geek Girl Authority!
