I am all for delaying games that need a bit more time to iron themselves out. Especially when those games are linear story-based. Nothing is worse than diving into a game and then having to stop because of an issue that requires patches to fix. When Modus Games announced the delay of Dreams Uncorporated and SYCK‘s era-bending RPG (role-playing game) Cris Tales, I was upset but ultimately understood their decision. I waited patiently for them to work through their issues and would dive back into the demo whenever I needed a small fix. And now, after months of waiting, I am happy to finally share that they have a new release date and trailer!

Cris Tales follows the story of Crisbell, an orphan with the amazing ability to slip between the past, present and future. When the kingdom of Crystallis is threatened by the evil Time Empress, Crisbell and her friends must do everything in their power to stop her and set things right. The trailer expands on the game’s time-hopping mechanic to expand well past the idea of just using it in combat. In fact, most of the demo actually has you using it to alter events. I was happy to see them continue to expand on this idea, as it really helps to separate the game from other turn-based RPGs.

I don’t think I can talk about a Cris Tales trailer without bringing up for probably the 100th time how beautiful the game artwork and world are. Seriously, I can’t wait to lose hours to this game. Everything from the characters to the world around them is done using 2D hand-drawn art that was animated within the game. The promise of desktop wallpapers and an extended artbook is what convinced me to finally purchase my first collector’s edition of a game. Plus, how could I turn away that Matias plushie?

Cris Tales is set to release on July 20, 2021, for PC through Steam and Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch. How excited are you to finally get the chance to explore more of this world? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
