It feels like I have been waiting a lifetime for news on Cowboy Bebop. And I know we learned that Yoko Kanno would be providing the music for the series during Netflix Geeked Week, but I needed more. So imagine my surprise when I awoke to first look images AND a release date for the series. It’s like Christmas in August.
Netflix’s adaptation of the highly popular anime has been in the works for quite a bit now, with John Cho in the role of Spike Spiegel, Mustafa Shakir as Jet Black and Daniella Pineda as Faye Valentine. I’m not afraid to admit that I was very skeptical of the adaptation when it was first announced. Cowboy Bebop holds a very special place in my heart and the anime itself has stood the test of time. I’ve never felt it needed a remake/reboot, so this wasn’t something I was looking for.

However, as casting news and information came out, I felt more excitement for the project. And these images. Well, they just bring me a level of joy, I struggle to explain. They captured a few iconic scenes like Spike in the church or working out. And the two with the yellow couch. It just feels like someone pulled them right from the anime. It really helps to ease my worry about the upcoming series, so now I can just be super excited.
But it wasn’t just images we got today. Netflix also announced that Cowboy Bebop would be dropping on November 19, 2021! So we only have three short months until we can really see what this series has to offer. Hopefully, in the next few weeks, we will get a trailer or more news on other cast members in the series.
