The online gaming world is one of the fastest-growing industries in the world. Not a week seems to go by without news of new games, technology, or innovation. One of the latest pieces of technology to enter the online gaming industry is the Samsung Gaming Hub. The question is, could the Samsung Gaming Hub be the future of online gaming?

What is Samsung Gaming Hub?

Having been announced during the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show, the Samsung Gaming Hub provides consumers with a way to access online games without having to use a personal computer or console. The Samsung Gaming Hub is included on Samsung smart televisions and monitors, meaning it comes with no extra cost at the outset. Xbox, GeForce Now, Utomik, and Amazon Luna are just some of the applications available when using the gaming hub on Samsung smart TVs and existing controllers can be used to stream games via the hub and associated apps. Speaking at CES 2022, head of marketing, Andrew Georgiou, said, “The Gaming Hub bridges the gap between hardware and software to create a simpler, easier way to discover and play tons of games from great partners like NVIDIA GeForce Now and Utomik.”

Good Choice of Apps and Controllers

One reason why a platform like Samsung Gaming Hub could be the future of online gaming is because of the choice of apps and controllers. At the time of writing, the apps available when using the Samsung Gaming Hub include Spotify, NVIDIA GeForce Now, Utomik, YouTube, Twitch, Xbox Game Pass, and Amazon Luna. Taking the Xbox Game Pass as an example, some of the best titles in the history of gaming are available on the pass, including Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Minecraft Legends, Sid Meier’s Civilization VI, and games from EA Play. The controllers compatible with Samsung Gaming Hub include those from Microsoft, Sony, Amazon, Logitech, and Nvidia. Other online gaming experiences are also available via the latest Samsung televisions, including casino games. For those wanting to use the Samsung Gaming Hub, it will mean purchasing a Samsung television or monitor. That could mean a significant outlay because buying a new television is not cheap, but the good news is the Samsung Gaming Hub is available on all new Samsung TVs released from 2022 onwards. Even the entry level Samsung smart televisions, such as the Crystal UHD BU8000, have access to Samsung Gaming Hub.

PlayStation and Nintendo

Question marks remain about the inclusion of PlayStation and Nintendo based games. At present, it appears Samsung have a deal in place with Microsoft which involves the inclusion of the Xbox Games Pass. It is unclear is this is an exclusive partnership, meaning Xbox will remain the major supplier of console-based games to the Samsung Gaming Hub or if the deal means there is room for PlayStation and Nintendo games to be added later. If the door is open for other platforms to join, the Samsung Gaming Hub could be the future of online gaming.
