Oh, Britta’s in this? Community is truly the gift that keeps on giving and the proof is in the Zoom call. We learned from Variety that the cast of the cult classic will be hosting a virtual table read to provide support for COVID-19 relief efforts. So, who from Greendale will be zooming in on Monday, May 18th at 2pm PT, you ask? Dan Harmon, Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Gillian Jacobs, Ken Jeong, Jim Rash and…wait for it…Donald Glover!
Now, the table read will commence via Sony Pictures TV’s “Community” YouTube page. Viewers will be able to watch the virtual table read in its entirety along with a special Q&A comprised of fan questions. Fans can submit questions on social media using the hashtag #AskCommunity and tagging @CommunityTV. In addition, fans will be asked to donate to two charities: José Andrés World Central Kitchen and Frontline Foods. Both organizations are committed to providing nourishing meals to first responders and vulnerable communities affected by COVID-19.
Not only that, but the Community cast will be reading “Cooperative Polygraphy,” the fourth episode of Season 5. “Cooperative Polygraphy” initially aired in 2014 on NBC. In said episode, the beloved Pierce Anastasia Hawthorne (Chevy Chase) unexpectedly passes away. Mr. Stone (Walton Goggins), a no-nonsense estate executor, subjects the study group to a lie detector test. Everyone must pass the test in order to receive distributions from Pierce’s will. This episode is one of my favorites, so I can’t wait to see the cast read it aloud. Bottle episode time!
Of course, this comes hot on the heels of Community making its Netflix debut. The entire series became available on April 1st. So, what does this mean for Abed’s “six seasons and a movie” prophecy? Can we fulfill said prophecy now that there’s reignited interest? I hope so!
