Welcome to Tavern Talk Thursday! We are expanding! What started as a column dedicated to chatting with members of the TTRPG community is growing to talk about all things TTRPG. We aim to continue sharing all the things we love about the community and all the content within. So, consider this a little peek into our favorite worlds and creators as we explore everything we love.
As the air begins to warm up, now is the perfect time to dust off those adventuring boots and dive into the fun. And what could be more fun than picking up a new comic series? From series that directly tie into TTRPGs to others that give readers the same good feeling they can find at the table, we have four comic series we know you will love.

TTRPG COMICS TO READ
IDW Dungeons & Dragons Series
Our first selection isn’t just one comic; it’s an entire series of comics from IDW for Dungeons and Dragons. They have been a long partner with Wizards of the Coast and have brought everything from stories out of Baldur’s Gate and Ravenloft to Rick and Morty to life on the page. Coming from the source material, they give us everything we love in epic adventures. It’s perfect for the franchise’s long-time fans and those just dipping their toes in the TTRPG world.

Rat Queens
Chances are, if you watch Critical Role, you have seen Laura Bailey and Marisha Ray‘s awesome costumes or the one-shot featuring Image Comic sand Kurtis J. Wiebe and Roc Upchurch’s Rat Queens. The series follows four adventurers who are rowdy as hell and ready to fight at the drop of a coin. Take your table of your favorite dysfunctional players, slap them down into the middle of a medieval world, and watch the mayhem unfold.

Lady Pendragon
We couldn’t put together this list without including a pick from our childhood, Matt Hawkin‘s Lady Pendragon. The series spins Arthur on its head and jumps between two different timelines as Guinevere tries to unite Britons in the past and Jennifer Drake attempts to unravel a mystery to save the present. It’s an epic adventure with two of our favorite female leads in comics. One thing to remember is that this comic tends to get a bit on the wordy side, but for those who love exposition, it’s a perfect fit.

Saga
Our final pick for TTRPG-related comics is Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples‘ Saga series. It is an excellent mix of space opera and fantasy. While it doesn’t follow the traditional tropes or elements we would find in TTRPGs, it is the adventure the main characters, Alana and Marko, find themselves in as they struggle to survive with their newborn daughter. It is also a great look at parenthood without feeling overly preachy, giving readers something to dig into.
