Welcome to Tavern Talk Thursday! We are expanding! What started as a column dedicated to chatting with members of the TTRPG community is growing to talk about all things TTRPG and board games. We aim to continue sharing everything we love about the community and all the content within. So, consider this a little peek into our favorite worlds and creators as we explore everything we love.
December is upon us, and for those in the northern hemisphere, winter is, too. While we have holiday parties and family get-togethers to worry about, it’s also the perfect time for a little Dungeons and Dragons. And while it can be any season in the fantasy world, we suggest taking a moment to embrace the cold with a few of our favorite cold-themed monsters.

Cold-Themed Monsters
Aseroth
We are kicking off this list with a trip to meet Aseroth, a demon lord in the realm known as Soulfreeze. Also known as the Winter Warlock, this demon lord is said to pack quite a punch. D&D lore has him sleeping in his fortress while he astrally travels. However, he isn’t afraid to defend his home if ever attacked. While we don’t have an official stat block for him, Reddit user Dreadlords94 shared his homebrew for others to enjoy.
Frost Giant
Who doesn’t love giants? Add some ice, and we’ll have a frosty party. In general, giants are great monsters to throw into play, but you could theme a whole side quest around an adventure to a frozen tundra. There is so much untapped potential with frost giants that the possibilities are endless. Honestly, we would also love to see one wander into a town and join a local fight night.

Adult White Dragon
Would it be a Dungeons and Dragons adventure without a dragon? Every dragon has its allure, but there is no dragon like a white dragon. The frosty foes invoke fear in adventurers’ eyes as they slowly freeze to unconsciousness. Imagine leading your players on an adventure through an icy mountain into a subterranean frozen liar of an adult white dragon. Let’s hope the mage in the party has prepared those fancy fire spells, or its going to be a long fight.
Yeti
Could we talk about a cold-themed adventure and not include a Yeti? Please sit down and imagine the possible adventure with us. You take your players on an adventure through an Arctic mountain in search of the mysterious and illustrious Yeti. They aren’t heading out to slay the Yeti. No, their wealthy benefactor wants proof of its existence. Take the crew through clue after clue as they search out the Yeti and extra points if they bring a bard to illustrate a picture of it.
