Netflix has successfully nabbed the new Coen brothers project. It’s a western anthology series called The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. The show will be written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen and star Tim Blake Nelson (Oh, Brother Where Art Thou) as Buster.

This is the Coen brothers’ first foray into their own original television series. Fargo came to TV with their blessing, and was executive produced by the pair, but that’s where their involvement stopped with that series. The Ballad of Buster Scruggs will be an anthology, meaning each episode will be a different story. “Each chapter will tell a distinct story about the American West” says The Hollywood Reporter.
Netflix seems excited to be the winners of the battle for the series. Cindy Holland, Netflix’s VP of original content said, “The Coens are visionary directors, masterful storytellers and colorful linguists. We are thrilled for Netflix to become home to the full range of their talents.”
The Battle of Buster Scruggs is set to stream on Netflix in 2018.
