Cobra Kai has one more fight left in it. As reported by Deadline, Netflix renewed the mega-hit karate drama for Season 6, which will be its last. The official social media account for the series released an announcement video and a heartfelt letter from showrunners Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg. Said showrunners promise Season 6 will be the “biggest season of Cobra Kai yet.” According to Deadline, production begins in late spring.

The Miyagiverse will hopefully branch out beyond its flagship series. Heald, Hurwitz and Schlossberg reveal they “hope to be telling more Karate Kid stories” “down the line.” Considering how popular (and profitable) Cobra Kai is for Netflix, I’ve no doubt the streamer will greenlight potential spin-offs.

Season 5 premiered on September 9, 2022, earlier than its predecessors. The season found Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang Karate joining forces to square off against Terry Silver’s (Thomas Ian Griffith) Cobra Kai while John Kreese (Martin Kove) grappled with his life choices in prison.

In the Season 5 finale, the gang defeats Terry Silver in combat, John Kreese fakes his death and escapes, and the teens mend fences. Miguel (Xolo Maridueña) and Robby (Tanner Buchanan) are on good terms, as is Robby with his father, Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka). Sam (Mary Mouser) and Tory (Peyton List) also patch up their infamous rivalry.

We learn about Sekai Taikai, a global karate tournament allowing renowned dojos to compete for the world title. Admittedly, I wondered if Season 6 would be the last hurrah after hearing about this, especially with multiple rivalries making peace in Season 5. The writers were paving the way for the endgame.
