As reported by Deadline, Netflix has renewed its mega-popular hit series Cobra Kai for Season Five ahead of its Season Four release in December.

This move is unsurprising, considering that it’s one of the streaming juggernaut’s biggest shows. It’s also critically acclaimed, having snagged four Emmy nominations in July for Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Stunt Performance, Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy and Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy.

Cobra Kai is a spin-off of The Karate Kid franchise. The show focuses on Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) as middle-aged adults. It hones in on their decades-long rivalry and complex relationship and the pair training the next generation of karate students.

The Season Three finale saw Johnny and Daniel combining their dojos to defeat antagonist John Kreese (Martin Kove) at the upcoming All Valley Karate Tournament. Season Four will also bring about the return of Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith), Kreese’s best friend.

Cobra Kai stars William Zabka, Ralph Macchio, Xolo Maridueña, Mary Mouser, Tanner Buchanan, Courtney Henggeler, Peyton List, Jacob Bertrand, Gianni DeCenzo, Vanessa Rubio and Martin Kove. Get your karate fix when the series returns for Season Four this December.

I’m elated that Netflix has greenlit Season Five. It’s rare when the streamer continues any series beyond four seasons, so this is a welcome change of pace. As long as the show retains its originality and exceptional fight choreography, I’d be content with 10 seasons.
