Cobra Kai stars Ralph Macchio (Daniel LaRusso) and William Zabka (Johnny Lawrence) recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly to discuss the mega-popular Netflix series’ highly anticipated fourth season. On the docket was the epic rematch between the dueling senseis.

Zabka jokes that “it wasn’t a draw.” Initially, Johnny was supposed to win, but “Ralph wouldn’t have that.” He also explains how exciting it was to adapt the rematch from the page to the screen.
The clip also showcases a montage of key moments from Season Four, including a voiceover from Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan) diving into the crux of the season: It doesn’t matter what fighting style you use as long as it works.
Zabka cracked up when he read about the “mutual back fist to the face” that ends the Daniel versus Johnny rematch. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Cobra Kai video without corny, “punny” dad jokes. Macchio claims he “got a kick out of it” while Zabka “got a fist to the face.”
Macchio reveals how crucial it was to get that scene right, with all the moving parts merging to create something spectacular, from the music to the stunts to the writing and the acting.
The video concludes with Macchio teaching Zabka all about Miyagi-Do’s “Wax On, Wax Off” method. This bit hints at some of Cobra Kai‘s fourth season training.
This show continues to be a cheesy, campy balm for our souls amid these turbulent times. If the ending for Season Four is any indication, we’re in for a treat when Season Five rolls around.
Cobra Kai Seasons One through Four are currently streaming on Netflix. Watch the clip featuring Zabka and Macchio below!
