Earlier this week it was announced that Clueless, The Musical will finally premiere Off Broadway with its opening night set for this fall. In the words of the divine Cher Horowitz: “Oh my God, I am totally buggin’.” The stage adaption of the incredible 1995 cult classic is being brought to life by writer Amy Heckerling, who just so happens to also be the screenwriter of the film Clueless. This brings to mind Tina Fey’s musical based on her film Mean Girls. The fact that Fey’s musical garnered 12 Tony nominations a few months after opening speaks for itself.
Clueless, The Musical found its home at The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center in New York City as part of the New Group. And while no cast list has been announced yet, there are a few names already causing quite the stir. For director we have Rock of Ages’ Kristin Hanggi, the rumored song writer is Hedwig and the Angry Inch’s Stephen Trask and the choreography will be by the elegant Kelly Devine of Come From Away.
We totally suggest you don’t pause, get your posse together and dust off your favorite yellow jacket, Clueless The Musical is set to premiere November 2018!
