Ivan Hess (Tom Kang) calls them “terrors.”  Connors (J.D. Evermore) set up Tyrone (Aubrey Joseph) to take the blame for Officer Fuchs’ (Lane Miller) death.  Adina (Gloria Reuben) told Tyrone to run.  Tandy (Olivia Holt) and Melissa Bowen (Andrea Roth) are being held captive by an assassin sent by Scarborough (Wayne Pére).  And Evita (Noëlle Renée Bercy) figured out that Tandy and Tyrone are the Divine Pairing sent to stop the “Colony Collapse.”

The First Pairing

The Divine Pairings have appeared when the area, known as New Orleans was in on the brink of destruction.  It started a great famine that struck the Choctaw people. A boy and girl took it upon themselves to save the village.  They checked their arms for a mark. The little girl had the mark and sacrificed her life to bring life back to the land and the food.

Scarborough’s assassin counts down for Tandy to come out or she will kill Melissa.  Tandy steps out to talk to the assassin long enough for Melissa to grab a knife and fight back.  Tandy tackles the assassin and they fight. She uses a dagger to cut the assassin and the gun woman runs away.  Tandy tells Melissa to go to a Mister Money location to hide from Roxxon. She calls Mina (Ally Maki), but there’s no answer.

Tyrone is at the Red Hawk costume room, looking for his cloak.  Otis (Miles Mussenden) shows up with the cloak. Adina called him and told him what happened.  He’s concerned for Tyrone, but tells him to run and don’t contact them. The police show up to search the place. Tyrone can hear Connors talking.  Otis says he will sneak Tyrone out the back door, but when he turns around, Tyrone is already gone.

Tandy goes to Mina’s place and is attacked by Roxxon worker affected by the valve explosion.  She has to stab him to stop him from attacking her. The exec that was in the explosion is tearing up Mina’s home to find her.  Tandy shows up just in time to stop him from attacking Mina. She tells Mina that the substance makes people violent and crazy, called terrors. They have to stop it. Mina says there are nine valves that are about to blow.  They can shut it off remotely at Roxxon HQ.

One of the cops sees Tyrone and calls it in, putting every officer on alert.  The police close in on Tyrone, causing him to run. O’Reilly (Emma Lahana) drives up to save him, but the police catch up. Tyrone can’t use his powers because there are too many people watching them.

The Wilson Brothers

At the time of settlement, the Wilson brothers fell in love with the same woman. A huge storm hit New Orleans and lasted as long as the feud did.  Leland, the oldest brother, wore a band on his arm for the woman he loved. The brothers decided to settle the matter with a duel. But Leland did not load his gun, sacrificing himself to end the feud. When he died, the storm ended.

Evita tells Auntie Chantelle (Angela M. Davis) that she found Tyrone’s divine partner.  She is confused about how they are going to stop the tragedy that is coming.  Chantelle says they need to remember their history.

The police arrest Tyrone and O’Reilly.  The police put Tyrone’s cloak in a drawer and take the two to a cage.  O’Reilly tells him to use his powers. Tyrone tries, but he says he can’t control it without the cape.  O’Reilly tries talking the cop guarding them, but he makes it clear that he doesn’t like her. Tyrone speaks to him, saying he didn’t kill anyone. He reminds the cop that he took a oath to protect him. He has the power to save them now.  Another cop enter the room and the first cop leaves.

Tandy and Mina head to Roxxon.  Mina has lost faith in their ability to save the environment. Tandy reminds her that it’s her destiny to find a way. Mina says destiny doesn’t exist, but Tandy says destiny is just string theory that hasn’t been proven yet.

Mina says they need to shut it down. Scarborough says they tried to stop it, but they can’t do it remotely.  There are valves near a school and the general public, but Scarborough doesn’t care. Tandy sternly asks where the kill switch is. Scarborough says the kill switch is in an annex building, 616.

Tandy touches him arm, transporting them to his hopes.  She asks him what his greatest hope is. He says he wants to be God.  Tandy shows him a door to his dreams, but it’s actually the door to the rig where Ivan was trapped.

Tyrone thanks O’Reilly for being one of the good cops.  Connors arrives and says he’s going to kill O’Reilly and blame Tyrone to justify killing him.  O’Reilly unlocks her handcuffs. Connors takes them out of the cage and they go to the main office.  A terror shows up and attacks an officer. The officer knocks him out and then checks his pulse to make sure he’s alive. The cop then goes crazy and attacks another officer.  More terrors enter the police station and start attacking.

Mina shuts one of the windows, but a terror reaches through the window and touches her arm.  Tandy hears the breaking glass and calls out for Mina. She hears someone running through the warehouse. Tandy sees Mina and she’s a terror. Mina chases after Tandy to attack her.

The terrors take over the police station.  Tyrone, O’Reilly and one other cop fight off the mob. Tyrone tries to look for his cloak, but the third cop says it’s in the weapons room.  O’Reilly takes Tyrone to the weapons room and uncuffs him. He takes two tasers, puts on the cloak, and transports back to the main office. He hands a taser to the good cop and yells at the terrors to come get him.  Tyrone goes into one of the offices and stands on the desk. The terrors start grabbing for him. He yells for O’Reilly to shut the door.

The mob starts tearing Tyrone’s cloak. He transports away from the station and ends up in the warehouse.  Mina has found Tandy and is running toward her. Tyrone turns and tases Mina to stop her attack.

Tandy and Tyrone go to the church to regroup. Tyrone is upset that his cloak was torn apart.  Tandy says she lost Mina, the only person she knows who can stop the valves from exploding. Evita shows up to tell him that they are the divine pairing. They were brought together to save the city.  Tandy is a little suspicious, but Evita insists that they try. She tells them that one of them will die, but that’s their destiny.

Tyrone tells her to leave and go somewhere safe. The city is in chaos and she is too important to him. Evita kisses him and grabs his arm.  She feels a cut and gasps. He asks what’s wrong, but she says it’s nothing. Evita says she will see him again.

Tandy and Tyrone come up with a plan to stop the valves from exploding.  Tyrone isn’t sure the terrors will go away if they stop the core. He doesn’t think he can help because his cloak is destroyed.  Tandy won’t let him wallow in self pity. She says he doesn’t get to go back to who he was before. He’s a master of time and space and he doesn’t need a cloak to do that. She gives him Billy’s hoodie.  Tandy says she took it because she needed it. Now Tyrone needs it and she needs him. Tyrone puts on the hoodie and they leave to stop the explosion.

They get to the pier but the terrors are right behind them.  O’Reilly takes out some of the terrors with a sniper rifle. Tyrone and Tandy find a way through the terrors and run.  O’Reilly runs back to her car, but Connors is there waiting for her. He shoots her bullet proof vest. O’Reilly is pushed back onto one of the valves.  Connors shoots the valve, causing a small explosion that blows O’Reilly backward. He says she should have stayed in New York and then kicks her into the lake.

Cloak & Dagger

Chantelle says a prayer in French for the Divine Pairing.

Tandy and Tyrone run down the street. Tyrone is holding his arm, saying it stings a little. They get to annex building 616 and Connors meets them with his gun drawn. He threatens to kill Tandy and they both attack Connors. Tyrone says he won’t live in fear anymore. He transports Connors and himself to the roof of the annex building.  Tyrone tells Connors that he’s not afraid anymore, but Connors should be. Connors says he afraid and he draws his gun again. Tyrone uses his power to stop Connors from shooting him. He absorbs Connors within himself.

Tyrone goes back to Tandy.  The ground shakes. Tandy says he has the power to be whoever he wants; or who he’s supposed to be.  Tyrone says he gets it as he holds the cut on his arm. One of them has to die. Tyrone can get to the core faster than Tandy, so it has to be him. Tandy protests, but he leaves Tandy standing alone outside the annex.

Inside, he finds the core and tries to relieve the pressure in the valves.  The ground shakes, knocking Tyrone around. Tandy cuts through the door and says she won’t let him die.  The ground shakes again and knocks Tandy into a pipe. The pipe burns Tandy’s arm in the same place as Tyrone’s cut. They are both marked. Tandy says their fates are mixed together. So if he dies, she has to die too.

Tandy says they have to combine their powers to stop the explosion. They hold hands and absorb all of the dark matter as it explodes.  They end up on top of the Mercedes Benz Superdome; both of them are alive.

Thoughts

Solid first season.  I like that the story was set up so that the viewer went on the journey with Tandy and Tyrone.  As a viewer, we went through the emotions and confusion of our heroes. We felt their sadness and their victory as they overcame their obstacles to find what really makes them strong.

I’m actually excited for season two.  The heroes are still discovering their abilities. I’d love to see more of what they can do together. And they have no idea about O’Reilly.  She was one of the good ones…what’s in store from her when Cloak & Dagger season two premieres in spring 2019? I can’t wait!
