After three weeks of confusion, Cloak & Dagger finally brings Tandy (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone (Aubrey Joseph) together to figure out who they are, what they can do, and why it’s happening. There’s a reason they keep finding each other.
What? Why? How?
Tyrone tells Tandy about his vision. He says he was looking for answers, but he got her answers. In the vision, the guys from Roxxon were torturing her dad and she ran, over and over. And then she stopped running. That’s when she helped him the most. But that’s impossible because…he’s dead.
Tandy says in her vision, she saw his brother. She knows Billy (Marqus Clae) was killed by a cop. She says he can find a better way to get the cop. Like how she lifts wallets off of people. She plays the victim by creating a narrative to make the target feel safe. Tyrone says he can’t do that because he’s a young black man living in the south.
Tandy explains that she can see people’s hopes and she creates daggers when she’s really scared or in danger. Tyrone sees people’s fears and has the ability to teleport, but he hasn’t been able to control it yet. It all started the night they touched in the graveyard.
Tandy and Tyrone do an experiment to see if they can touch without activating their powers. Nope. As soon as they touch, an electric burst throws them on opposite sides of the room. What are they to do when the universe brings them together only to push them apart?
Who Are You?
Tandy asks if Tyrone told anyone about his powers. Tyrone says no because no one would understand. Billy would have though. Tandy says her dad would have, but not her mom. She says her mom is a mess. Tyrone confesses that his parents don’t trust him.
The two teens begin to understand each other. They had a hint of each other’s lives in their visions. Tandy asks what the checks meant though. Tyrone was sitting in a room full of checks made out to him from Billy. He says he feels guilty. He has to be perfect and do everything right to make up for two lives. Tandy on the other hand feels the opposite. Everything she does is wrong. She says she wishes she were the one who died that night.
Tyrone gets upset by her comment. She says the little girl he saw handing out drugs is who she really is. Tyrone tells her that life is not that bad. She reminds him that he lives in a nice house, goes to a nice school and has both of his parents. He doesn’t feel sorry for her though. She can do whatever she wants without anyone questioning her. He says the world is trying to kill him everyday. Tandy says she walked through his hopes and saw someone who was committing suicide by chasing a cop. Tyrone gets mad and leaves the church. Tandy turns to drugs to calm down. Tyrone does push-ups to get through his anger.
Call and Response
The next day, Tyrone leaves for school in a hurry. Adina (Gloria Reuben) tries to talk to Tyrone, but he can’t hear her. Otis (Miles Mussenden) tries to make him sit and eat breakfast, but Tyrone is in a bad mood and leaves. At school, Tyrone has a make out session with Evita (Noëlle Renée Bercy). She wonders who he really is. (I wonder why he hasn’t seen her fears yet?)
After school, Tyrone sets up a crime scene to make it look like his bike was stolen. He throws his bike under the highway and heads to the police station. Once he’s there, he looks around and gets really nervous. Tyrone leaves the station without reporting the stolen bike.
Tyrone apologizes to his father for his behavior at breakfast. Otis tells Tyrone that his bolt cutters are missing. Otis checks Tyrone’s bag and finds the bolt cutters inside. He says there’s only two things that one can do with bolt cutter: steal something or break into something. Tyrone says it’s none of his business. That sets Otis off. He tells Tyrone to go with him.
Otis takes Tyrone to a group of men. He starts chanting at the men. A man responds to the call, saying from the Wild Redhawks of the Ninth. Otis calls himself a spyboy of the Red Hawks. The Red Hawk leader (Divine Prince Ty Emmecca) questions Otis identity. He holds a razor to Otis’ throat, but Otis doesn’t flinch. The leader asks where Otis has been hiding. Otis says it’s been way too long and the men greet him.
Tyrone looks around the house of the Red Hawks. There are a lot of photos on the wall, including one of Billy. The Red Hawk leader tells Tyrone that Billy was supposed to be the next spyboy. A spyboy runs around town looking for trouble coming their way and warns them.
Otis explains the costumes. Each man beads his own Mardi Gras suit. They make a new suit every year. Some men don’t finish. They have room full of unfinished suits. It takes a man with patience to finish his suit in time for Mardi Gras. In the process, they find control and the suit symbolizes that control. Tyrone goes into the closet of the unfinished and finds a black cloak.
Tyrone starts beading the cloak, but Otis tries to stop him. He tells Tyrone to put it back and asks why he picked that cloak. Tyrone says it spoke to him. The cloak belonged to Billy. Tyrone says he wants to finish it…for Billy. So Otis shows him how to bead the cloak.
Tandy goes home and tells Melissa (Andrea Roth) that she wants to know about her case against Roxxon. Melissa says it’s not about the money. It’s about clearing Nathan Bowen’s (Andy Dylan) name. She says Roxxon used him as a scapegoat to cover up the real reason that the rig exploded. Have no fear! Greg (Gary Weeks) is on the case. Tandy is suspicious of Greg. She doesn’t think he’s really trying to help them. They are interrupted by Greg who returns with groceries.
Tandy makes an effort to talk to Greg. She asks if he’s there for her mom or for the money she will win. Greg says he really cares about Melissa, despite being married to someone else. Tandy touches his hand and sees a vision of Greg married to Melissa and preparing dinner with Tandy. After the vision, Tandy decides to help Greg make dinner.
Tandy goes to Greg’s office, saying she wants to help with the case. Greg says Melissa told her everything about the rig. Roxxon closed the case, but didn’t shut down the rig. Doesn’t make sense that they would operate through a failed experiment. Greg says Roxxon is leaving a paper trail and he’s close to finding something. Tandy suggests checking the guys’ social media. Greg gives Tandy a place to work.
Later, Tandy, Melissa and Greg sit down for dinner and Greg’s wife calls. Melissa tells him to take the call. He gets up to talk to her, upsetting Melissa. Melissa decides to go to bed. She says she has a job interview and says goodnight. Tandy tells Melissa that she was right about Greg, but Melissa has changed her mind. She broke up with Greg.
Tandy goes back to Greg’s office and sees a delivery driver shoot Greg in the head. The driver sets his desk on fire and leaves. Tandy returns home to tell Melissa about Greg. She hears Melissa on the phone, leaving a message for Greg. She wants to get back together with him.
The next morning, Adina hears Otis telling Tyrone stories about the Wild Red Hawks. Adina is shocked that Tyrone made breakfast for them. Later, Tyrone goes back to the police station. He asks to speak with Det. O’Reilly.
The next day, Tandy goes to the pier, chains her hands together and jumps in the lake. She emerges with a broken chain and a dagger in her hand. Tandy goes back to Greg’s office and straight to the safe. She uses her dagger to cut open the safe and pulls out the Roxxon file.
