A few months ago, Nintendo tugged on every gamer’s nostalgia strings and announced an NES Classic Edition. It’s basically an emulator, wrapped in a small NES shell, that comes pre-packaged with 30 original Nintendo games.
Now Nintendo has released a video giving us a glimpse at the UI, and it’s about what you would expect with one exciting feature. You have your power button, your one controller, a list of games, and you have a suspend option which looks similar to a save point but different, and that’s the exciting part. The older games had save points few and far between so, if you wanted to play, you needed to be fine with walking away from all the progress you made, leaving the system running, or playing for several hours until you found a save point.
This feature looks to suspend the game, similar to what the PS4 does when you switch away from the game to a different app. Except, you can have multiple suspend points, like modern save points, and pick the game back up where you choose. However, if you choose a suspend point that is different than the in game save point, the suspend point data will overwrite the in game save data.
Now, onto the games, which come preloaded with the mini console. You get 30 classic games for the price of $59.99 which really isn’t bad. If you want a second controller, that will only cost $9.99. As of now, there will be no way to add new games to the system. What you see if what you get, until Nintendo changes its mind. Check out the list after the video.
