Christian Bale almost joined the Star Wars universe. Almost. While on Josh Horowitz‘s podcast Happy, Sad, Confused, we learned that the actor was close to joining the next film in the universe. And while he ultimately didn’t get a part, the door appears to be open. On the podcast he further revealed how much of a fan he and his family are of the stories set in a galaxy far, far away.

Casting had begun for the mentor role for Han Solo in Solo: A Star Wars Story and according to Borys Kit of THR, Christian Bale’s name had come up on the list. While the role ultimately went to Woody Harrelson, things appear to be pretty positive for the actor. He discussed his temptation in joining the series and his relationship with Lucasfilm President, Kathleen Kennedy.

Yes, [it was] very tempting. I not only love the films going back to my childhood but also have a very long relationship with Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall because they did Empire of the Sun many years back. There was discussion, [and] I hope there will be future discussions.

It appears he’s still very interested in playing a part somewhere down the line. As a personal note, I am completely on board with his involvement in one (or more) of the films. Bring on the Bale! When he was asked if he was a fan of the franchise, he confessed he was. He even nerded out a bit with the merchandise he has of the saga. But his best bit includes a story he shared about his daughter and her love of Star Wars.

Star Wars I’m a huge fan. Yeah Star Wars really interests me. I’ve still got the Millennium Falcon, I’ve got the AT-AT. My daughter, her first love was Darth Vader. She absolutely adored Darth Maul. [She] stood near him at Disneyland and he growled and he’s got those teeth and he stayed in character, really wonderful performance, and she was teeny and I thought, ‘This is gonna scare the crap out of her, this is such a bad idea.’ And then she stopped and she said, ‘Daddy, I’m in love.’

It’s just a really sweet story and you can’t help but think how much it would mean to her if her Dad could be involved in a film. As of now, we’ll have to wait and see if he gets a part in a film down the road. Rian Johnson will have a new trilogy coming soon so maybe we’ll see him there.
