Chris Pine just keeps hitting all of my nerd buttons. First it was Star Trek, then Into the Woods, then Wet Hot American Summer, Wonder Woman, and now he’s entering one of my first childhood obsessions. Entertainment Weekly announced this week that Pine will play Mr. Murry, Meg’s father in the film version of A Wrinkle in Time. What is next!?!
Chris, if you star in the reboot of Quantum Leap, we’re going to have to have a serious conversation.
But, I digress. A Wrinkle in Time was truly where I found my love of science-fiction for the first time. It is still one of my favorite books, ever.
There have been filmed versions of the story made before, but it seems that this will give it production value that it has not previously enjoyed.
For my money, Pine is a great pick. He’s got heart, and timing. He can be serious. He can be silly. He’s so likable, that you’d expect his daughter to risk everything to get him back. I won’t tell you more, in case you’re not in the know.
Do yourself a solid and read the book some afternoon before this movie comes out. It is truly beautiful.
Chris Pine joins Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling and Gugu Mbatha-Raw in the cast. They will be directed by Ava Duvernay.
This project is in pre-production. No dates have been announced.
