Brace yourselves, Cap fans! According to Deadline, Chris Evans is reportedly in talks to reprise his most famous character, Captain America, for a future Marvel Cinematic Universe project. Now, it’s not clear whether a deal has been solidified, but Deadline‘s sources seem confident that it’s close to being official. Said deal purportedly has the actor returning for at least one MCU property with “the door open for a second film.” Deadline‘s sources also claim that it’s unlikely that we’ll see another Cap-centric installment.
However, Evans’ role could be akin to Robert Downey Jr.‘s appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Evans was quite blatant about retiring from playing Steve Rogers after his last go-round in 2019’s mega-blockbuster Avengers: Endgame. Anthony Mackie, who portrays Sam Wilson/Falcon, is slated to take up the Captain American mantle. His relationship with the famed shield will be explored in the upcoming Disney Plus series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

As reported by Deadline, apparently Evans slowly warmed to the idea of returning to the MCU as time went by. “Evans became more game to the idea with the two sides coming to agreement at the top of the year.” Whether we’ll see him pop up in one of Disney Plus’ several Marvel shows or another movie remains to be seen. Marvel hasn’t confirmed nor denied Evans’ role in a future MCU project.
Now, Evans will soon be preoccupied with Netflix’s The Gray Man starring opposite Ryan Gosling. The Gray Man is being produced by The Russo Brothers. It will be the streaming giant’s most ambitious film yet with a monumental budget backing it. The mission is to unleash a new franchise a la the James Bond series.
Regardless of when and how Chris Evans returns to the MCU, I’ll just be happy he’s here. Captain America, and more specifically Evans’ iteration, is one of my favorite comic book characters. I’m a Cap girl, through and through. Here’s hoping we hear more concrete news of Evans’ reprisal soon!
