Welcome to this week’s installment of F2P Friday, where we highlight our favorite Free-2-Play games. The video game market is oversaturated, and sometimes hidden gems can fall through the cracks. This is where we do all the digging for you and feature a new F2P game we know you will enjoy every week. Let’s dive in!

Chimera Island

Chimera Island is a casual monster collection and management game created by students. Throughout your journey, raise a group of creatures, train them in various facilities and improve their stats. In doing so and succeeding on expeditions, restore the desolate landscape to its former lush state. With many different Chimera to discover and facilities to upgrade, players can spend hours immersed and enjoying the island sanctuary they’ve created.

The Basics

Let’s get down to the basics. Chimera Island is a low-stress collection and management game that can easily run like an idle simulator if you have a second monitor. You can use a mouse to control all menus and implement upgrades, so this is a low-skill game that’s also great for casual players.

You’ll start the game by choosing a monster. Each of the three starting Chimera has the potential to turn into one of three unique evolutions. By customizing their training, you can adjust the course of their destiny and guide their evolutions down distinct paths.

The island around you is a desolate, barren wasteland that needs restoration. To do so, you’ll need to unlock the three different facilities. Each one is unique and specializes in a different type of training to help level up and evolve your monsters. Send your best monsters out on expeditions and gain resources to help restore the island.

Why Should I Play?

Why should you play Chimera Island? If you want an adorable, hands-off experience, this is the game for you. The gameplay is very low-skill and amounts to watching progress bars complete at times, so it would be perfect to run on a second screen.

Unlike other idle simulators, once you have collected all the monsters, there isn’t much else to do. I put in just under two hours, and the game was complete. That said, there is still a lot of fun to be had in collecting the chimeras and leveling them up.
