CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA Is in the Works at CW

Sabrina the Teenage Witch is getting spooky! According to Variety, Sabrina will be coming to the CW but as a rebooted series. Flush away those thoughts of the teen comedy show starring Melissa Joan Hart and her sassy cat, Salem. This one focuses on the macabre.

According to the article, the rebooted series will focus on the rebooted comic version, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. The comics focuses on a dark coming-of-age story the doesn’t include happy spells to change your outfit. Instead it will focus on witchcraft, the occult and horror elements. The show will have a “Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist” vibe while having her combat the evil forces threatening all she holds dear.

Should it come to production, it will be the companion series to the other dark teenage series, Riverdale. The creative team over at Riverdale will be working on this as well, so we’re bound to see crossovers. Sabrina seems to have a good chance of coming to series, given the popularity of the current Archie series, not to mention the other supernatural (get it?) shows on the network.

I’m all for witch shows, but I don’t think I’ll be tuning in. Just something about seeing blood and guts attached to the name Sabrina Spellman isn’t working in my head. I’m too stuck on the 90s version.
