Vanity Fair released the first images of CBS All Access limited series, The Stand. These first images include Whoopi Goldberg as Mother Abigail (see above), Amber Heard as Nadine Cross, and Alexander Skarsgård as the devilish Randall Flagg. The nine episode series is set to premiere later this year.
Based on the 1978 novel by Stephen King, The Stand is about a virus that kills millions of people, leaving behind a chosen few to lead humanity into the next phase of the world. It becomes a battle of biblical proportions between the good people with Mother Abigail and the heathens that run wild with Randall Flagg. Not everyone is all good or all bad and there are some people who may not be as good or bad as you think.
ABC adapted The Stand as a four part mini-series for television in 1994. This new version will be very different from the 1994 version. Most notably will be how the story is told. The older version was very linear. The new version will start after the plague hits and the survivors are picking up the pieces, with some flashbacks here and there.
In addition to Goldberg, Heard and Skarsgård, we also get a glimpse of Jovan Adepo as Larry Underwood, Heather Graham as Rita Blakemoor, Odessa Young as Frannie Goldsmith, Owen Teague as Harold Lauder, and and Nat Wolff as Loyd Henreid. All are characters with important roles to play in forming the new world order. Check out the photos below.
The Stand also stars James Marsden, Henry Zaga, Greg Kinnear, Brad William Henke, and Katherine McNamara. Production completed before the coronavirus shut down and according to Vanity Fair, the series will premiere as scheduled. No word on when that will be.
