Cannonball! Variety is reporting that Charlie Heaton, of Stranger Things fame, is in talks to join the latest X-Men project, New Mutants. The Fox/Marvel teamup already has quite the cast list so this would be another exciting addition to the team.
Heaton is in talks to play Sam Guthrie aka Cannonball. His mutant powers consist of generating thermo-chemical energy which he uses to propel through the air like a rocket. As well as the ability to fly, he’s also able to manifest an impenetrable force field around himself and others. Cannonball is a founding member and the team leader of the New Mutants, he first appeared in Marvel Graphic Novel #4: The New Mutants. He was created by comic icon Chris Claremont, who created several popular X-Men, and Bob McLeod.

Heaton is relatively new to the acting scene at just 23 years old. He appeared in BBC One’s Casuality and was a starring role in the psychological thriller Shut In. He’s had a few smaller roles but Stranger Things is currently his biggest. Should he join the New Mutants, he will be joining Anya Taylor-Joy and Maisie Williams who have both already signed on. Director Josh Boone also co-wrote the script with Knate Lee and produced by Simon Kinberg and Karen Rosenfelt.
