We finally have a look at Aquaman. Finally! Revealed in Entertainment Weekly today, we got 6 new photos and 2 magazine cover photos revealing our first look at characters like Queen Atlanna (Nicole Kidman), Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) and King Orm (Patrick Wilson). We also got a small scoop at what we can expect to see with the strong people of Atlantis.
First, there’s been a lot of hype around this film at how different it is. And director James Wan continues to beat that drum saying, “The water world my movie takes place in is so separate and so far apart from previous DC movies it’s like I’m making my own sci-fi fantasy film. This is a whole new underwater world nobody has seen before in live action.” And he intends to deliver. Atlanteans being described as riding great white sharks, octopi, and sea dragons. There’s seven different underwater kingdoms, unknown if they’re all ruled by Atlantis or not. There’s even cannibals thrown in for good measure. This movie is gonna be a lot of fantastic imagery.

We also learn of one of the antagonists of the film, David Kane aka Black Manta (David Hyde in the comics). He’s been described as a pirate and part-time mercenary who is being kept under wraps. We have an image of him working on the prototype of his iconic suit. Another picture has Aquaman (Jason Momoa) in a submarine that says he’s battling pirates. So we may have them meet during the submarine attack. However, the main antagonist of the film is King Orm aka Ocean Master, the half-brother of Arthur Curry. He wants to bring war upon the land-dwellers but Aquaman will be doing some reconnaissance work above land to stop him.
The last character we get to see is the back of Vulko’s (Willem Dafoe) head and he as a sweet bun! Speaking of outfits and styles, the suits that all the Atlantean characters wear are interesting – a one piece suit with shimmering pieces to mimic scales. It’s pretty cool. Their armor is also, of course, ocean themed with Aquaman rocking a different one from the one in Justice League. I’d also like to quickly mention that I really love Queen Atlanna’s outfit. It’s revealing but not overtly sexual like Mera’s (Amber Heard). But Aquaman sticks out the most with his pants and vest. It’s pretty much Jason Momoa in the water, let’s be real.

I’m really looking forward to seeing more from this world. I’m very curious how all the pieces will fit together what with the two anatagonists. An origin story. A romance. An above-water adventure. War. We’ll have to see! A trailer is rumored to be out soon so we’ll keep our fingers crossed.
