The CW’s Batwoman will be undergoing a series of changes, TV Line reports. Firstly, lead actress Ruby Rose‘s abrupt departure left Gotham without a hero. That is, until Javicia Leslie came along. Leslie is set to star as the new caped vigilante in Season Two of the series.

Showrunner Carole Dries spoke about Batsuit modifications for Leslie’s Ryan Wilder at DC FanDome on Saturday. While Leslie herself has yet to be fitted for her super suit, the pair have been brainstorming on ways to honor the world’s first Black Batwoman via costume.

Of course, Kate Kane’s (Rose) vanishing will be addressed at the onset of Season Two. The previous hero will have inexplicably disappeared, leaving a void for another vigilante to take her place. Enter Ryan Wilder. Dries revealed that Wilder’s arrival will ultimately connect the Kane family. Now, this won’t be an easy transition. Why would we want that? Dries and the cast members present for the DC FanDome panel also hinted at plenty of pushback regarding Wilder’s insertion into the group dynamic.

I think a Batsuit change is perfectly warranted. And the fact that both Dries and Leslie are discovering ways to honor the milestone of a Black Batwoman through costume is both respectful and exciting. As for the core characters reacting to a new caped crusader, I’m interested to see how that dynamic shifts throughout the course of Season Two.

Batwoman stars Javicia Leslie, Camrus JohnsonRachel SkarstenMeagan TandyNicole Kang, and Dougray Scott. Season Two will darken our screens sometime in the near future, only on The CW.
