Okay, so Celine Dion can often (too often, if you ask me) be a punchline.  She’s ridiculously talented, singularly unique, epically overdramatic and it’s pretty inspiring and often hilarious.  So, when you think about it, she’s a perfect match for Deadpool.  And, she and Deadpool have proved that in a new music video for the Deadpool 2 theme, Ashes.

Ashes is a sweeping ballad about finding beauty and rising out of said ashes.  It’s a Titanic-esque super ballad with all of the power that Dion brings with her to everything she does.  The video is a very sincere showcase of that power and the beauty of the song.  Until… it’s not.

If you’re like me, you’ll spend the whole video waiting for the joke.  Because, it’s Deadpool, right?  It can’t be entirely sincere, right?  Right.  It takes awhile, and it’s entirely entertaining in its sincerity, but you do get the silliness that Deadpool has delivered from the beginning.  I won’t spoil it more than that, but it’s the most graceful and beautiful joke I’ve seen in awhile.  And, the end of the video will make you laugh out loud.  It’s nice to see that through all of the chest pounding and demonstrative gestures, Celine Dion has a sense of humor about herself.

After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.

Deadpool 2 will be released in theaters on May 18th.
