As soon as the news broke, there was an outpouring of love and tributes to the comic book genius, including many from the actors and directors who brought Lee’s characters to life.  Lee was an inspiration to more than those who appeared in Marvel movies.  Here are some of the tributes from around social media.

A fond farewell to Stan Lee, of Marvel Comics.  He will be sadly missed.

I was  lucky enough to meet him. He came over to my office and we sat around for a while chatting about comic books and my admiration for his work. Actually he was suggesting making a superhero who would wield a Hofner bass guitar. The guitar would have super powers and we spent some time imaging what those could be. He had a great sense of humour and I must say the idea of becoming a guitar wielding superhero in one of his comic books was very appealing.

Sending love to his family and friends and always holding happy memories of this great man. Love ya, Stan! – Paul McCartney

Stan Lee created a universe where, if a character was beloved enough, they could never really die. Now THAT’S thinking ahead. Thanks for so much of my life. You’ll never not be in it. – Joss Whedon

He changed the way we look at heroes, and modern comics will always bear his indelible mark. His infectious enthusiasm reminded us why we all fell in love with these stories in the first place. Excelsior, Stan – DC Comics

I was first interviewed for Stan Lee’s obituary about 20 years ago. I was happy he defied the reaper and carried on. With Stan gone, an era really does come to an end. He was the happy huckster that comics needed. And he really did alliterate like that when you talked to him. – Neil Gaiman

Taking a moment to thank the great @therealstanlee for his kindness and allowing me to play one of his favorite characters. The experience I had on #thefantasticfour playing #suestorm #invisiblewoman was so meaningful as a young actress and made a huge impact on me. We will miss you #StanLee#Legend #Excelsior – Jessica Alba

And, of course, Marvel.
