We have waited what feels like an eternity for another glimpse at Netflix’s Castlevania: Nocturne. The series is the second in Netflix’s ongoing adaptation of Konami’s hit video game series. While the first one, titled Castlevania, followed Trevor Belmont (Richard Armitage), Sypha Belnades (Alejandra Reynoso) and Alucard (James Callis), this new one jumps several decades into the future. And after a small eternity of waiting, we finally have a teaser that gives us a glimpse at the story this new series will tell.

The year is 1792, the height of the French Revolution. In a remote part of France, the people have far more to be worried about as the counter-revolutionary aristocracy has forged an alliance with a terrifying Vampire Messiah, who promises to ‘eat the sun’ and unleash an army of vampires and nightcreatures to crush the Revolution and enslave humanity. And who can save them? The last remaining member of the long-fabled vampire-hunting family – Richter Belmont (Edward Bluemel).

The teaser for Castlevania: Nocturne gives us quite a bit of what we can expect from this story. We see and hear about the mysterious Vampire Messiah and what terrors she will bring in the name of Revolution. But we also know that we will get some of Richter’s backstory, which explains what happened to his mother and his connection with the deadly nightcreatures. Each scene is played out while a beautifully haunting melody plays in the background, and it couldn’t be more perfect.

The choice in art style and animation brings the series to life while paying homage to the video game franchise. The teaser also gives us a look at several of the series’ supporting characters, including Maria Renard (Pixie Davies) and Richter’s late mother, Julia Belmont (Sophie Skelton).
