The X-Men franchise over at Fox has taken a quick little pause in its production since last year’s release, X-Men: Apocalypse. Their last-planned Wolverine film, Logan, hits theatres in March, but after that they’ve got nothing in the can and nothing planned for release until next year.
However, they have at least one film going into production this year and that will be X-Men: New Mutants. Not a lot is known about it other than it’s written and directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in our Stars) and that it might involve Demon Bear at some point. Other than that, we’ve got no casting leads, no plot reveals, no villain insight — nothing.
However, that may have changed today as That Hashtag Show has some more casting rumors they’re claiming are true. There are no actors attached to this character descriptions; in fact, these descriptions don’t even have the real names of the characters from the comics. They use fake names as a placeholder.
The character breakdowns are —
[CHRIS] Male, 17 years old, Actor must be an adult (18 or over) or a legally emancipated minor; Tall, corn-fed Kentucky kid.
[ANNA] Female, 17 years old, Actor must be an adult (18 or over) or a legally emancipated minor; Russian, sexy, with an obvious mean streak.
[ROB] Male, 16 years old, Actor must be an adult (18 or over) or a legally emancipated minor; Brazilian, cool, confident and extremely handsome.
[JESSICA] Female, 16 years old, Actor must be an adult (18 or over) or a legally emancipated minor; British, punk rock shorn red hair, waif-like.
And just who are these characters then?
The first one, “Chris,” is Sam Guthrie, a.k.a. Cannonball. He’s a slim tall boy from Kentucky who can fly at supersonic speeds and, when airborne, he creates an impenetrable blast field around him that essentially turns him into a human cannonball.
The second one, “Anna,” is Ilyana Rasputin, a.k.a. Magik. She is the younger sister to Peter Rasputin, or Colossus. She has the power to create teleportation discs to take them anywhere in the world, but she also has latent magic powers. She is the sorceress that presides over the demonic dimension of Limbo, where Belasco also presides. She is wielder of the powerful Soul Sword as a result of this.
The third one, “Rob,” is Roberto Da Costa, a.k.a. Sunspot. He is from Brazil and has the power to absorb the power of the sun and then transform that to super strength. When he goes into that particular “mode” he completely blacks out, like a sunspot. In later comics, he discovered he could actually shoot hot, plasmic fire from his body.
And finally, the last one, “Jessica,” is Rahne Sinclair, a.k.a. Wolfsbane. She is, basically, a werewolf from Scotland who suffers from extreme Catholic guilt. She can either go half-wolf or full wolf, depending on how angry she is. Of course, you never wanna go full-wolf, but sometimes you just have to.
It goes without saying that none of these are 100% confirmed from Fox and that this should all be taken as total rumor until we get confirmation from them. However, these four characters for a film about the New Mutants makes sense as they were all core members of the original team and are completely expected to be in the film.
