In news that has almost slid under the radar with all the excitement, Carrie Fisher‘s General Leia will not be included in Star Wars Episode IX. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy confirmed the news in an interview. Talking to ABC News during Celebration on Friday, she cleared the air.

Last week, Carrie Fisher’s brother Todd Fisher told news outlets that Carrie would be in Episode 9 with unused footage. However, Kennedy made the news clear and gave us a true answer as to what they planned on doing with Leia. “He was probably confused. Cause we finished everything in (Episode) 8 and Carrie is absolutely phenomenal in the movie. And we were so happy that we were able to complete shooting in the summer. Unfortunately, Carrie passed away. So at the time we were well underway with Episode 9 in our thoughts, we had not written a script yet. But we’ve regrouped, we’ve started over again in January. So, sadly, Carrie will not be in (Episode) 9.”

This is both good and bad news. It’s bad because we will not get to see a complete arc with Leia. However her story ends in Episode 8 is the last we’re going to see her. The good news is that they truly aren’t going to bring her back to life with animation or unused footage. There’s no potential for things to go bad.
