Today, we got our first look at Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel and it’s marvel-ous! With the new images came all new detail as to how the plot of the film would take shape. In Marvel films, the hero will typically gain their powers throughout the origin story and do some heroic acts to prove their worthiness of said powers. But according to the information released by Entertainment Weekly, things are starting off on a different foot for our Captain.
Carol will already have her powers at the start of the film. And she won’t be struggling to understand her purpose, oh no. She immediately joins Starforce, an elite military team by the Kree. When we meet her, she’s already accepted her fate and left Earth behind her. Though, not entirely. She’ll be led by the “enigmatic commander” played by Jude Law into galaxy galavanting missions. Except, she ends right back on Earth with even more questions as to who she truly is. And with the oncoming threat of Skrulls invading Earth, she’ll run into a S.H.I.E.L.D “desk jockey” ready to make a difference in the world. But is she ready to face that challenge?

While she may have incredible alien powers, her human heart is what keeps her flawed. Director Anna Boden shared just why her flaws make her so special.
This is not a superhero who’s perfect or otherworldly or has some godlike connection. But what makes her special is just how human she is. She’s funny, but doesn’t always tell good jokes. And she can be headstrong and reckless and doesn’t always make the perfect decisions for herself. But at her core, she has so much heart and so much humanity — and all of its messiness.
Star Brie Larson concurred, adding about her character’s temperament.
She can’t help but be herself. She can be aggressive, and she can have a temper, and she can be a little invasive and in your face. She’s also quick to jump to things, which makes her amazing in battle because she’s the first one out there and doesn’t always wait for orders. But the [not] waiting for orders is, to some, a character flaw.
Needless to say, we’ll be seeing her jump into battle without thinking and potentially making some fatal errors. And nothing makes you learn faster than mistakes, especially those of a worldly size. I’m really looking forward to seeing what they do with her powers. It’s been hinted that Law’s character will be trying to hone them – but for what purpose? Will the entire Kree army eventually turn on her? There are so many theories! But it’s incredibly interesting that she’ll be right up in space immediately if not right off the bat. How will these events shape her into the planet throwing bada** we’ll see in Avengers 4? Hopefully we’ll see a glimpse soon!
