DaCosta landed on Hollywood’s radar with her directorial debut the independent film Little Woods starring Tessa Thompson. Jordan Peele hand picked DaCosta to direct the retelling of the 90’s horror Candyman. Candyman will premiere in October after being delayed by the coronavirus. From what little bit we’ve seen, it looks amazing!
There are no details about the when the sequel will take place. Captain Marvel played a role in defeating Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, but she was gone for most of the film. Maybe we will get to see where she was and who she was fighting during that time.

The first film grossed over $1 billion globally. The film introduced the MCU to Carol Danvers in an origin story before releasing her on Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. Captain Marvel co-director, Ryan Fleck congratulated DaCosta on Twitter, saying he and co-director Anna Boden wished DaCosta the best. Taika Waititi also commented, calling the news, “Swweeeeeet!” It appears Marvel and Disney are making good on diversifying behind the camera as well as in front of it. This is a huge step for diversity.
