Happy Doctor Who Day, fellow Whovians! On this day 57 years ago, a certain Time Lord landed in London and subsequently altered our universe as we know it. Now, to celebrate our favorite Gallifreyan, we’ve got official key art for Doctor Who‘s upcoming holiday special, “Revolution of the Daleks.” But that’s not all!
Everyone’s favorite immortal, bisexual captain is back in action for the impending special — Jack Harkness (John Barrowman)! Jack last appeared in Season Twelve’s “Fugitive of the Judoon,” so his addition to “Revolution of the Daleks” should come as no surprise. In fact, the Doctor Who key art features Jack front and center, looking positively deadly and ready to slay.
Additionally, the official Doctor Who Twitter account dropped a Jack-centric teaser to tantalize the masses. In the clip, we hear the TARDIS arriving nearby. Jack exuberantly comments on how he’s missed “that sound.” You know, the sound that brings hope to those who need it. Or the sound that indicates the Doctor kept the brakes on again.
While Chris Chibnall‘s era has left something to be desired for me personally, I’m tickled pink to see Jack make a resurgence. Chibnall did write a handful of episodes for Torchwood, so he definitely knows Jack Harkness as a character. I have more faith that Jack’s role will be splendiferous with that knowledge in mind. Here’s hoping!
You can check out the Jack teaser and Doctor Who key art below. The festive special stars Jodie Whittaker, Mandip Gill, Tosin Cole, Bradley Walsh and John Barrowman. Doctor Who‘s “Revolution of the Daleks” will take the holiday season by storm sometime soon.
