So, for this of you who are comic book purists, prepare to Thor-flip your nearest table. For those of you who don’t really care either way, you won’t be upset, but possibly intrigued the way we were.

According to actor Daniel Bruhl, who’s playing the role of Baron Zemo in Captain America: Civil War, the villain will not be wearing his trademark purple hood. Doing promotions for his latest film, the Bradley Cooper vehicle, Burnt, he revealed to Business Insider, “He does not wear the mask.”

He then went on to add more about the character, saying that he will be “different than what you’d think” and that he’s only “loosely connected” to the Zemo we know from the comics.

He finishes saying, “That’s what I like about the Marvel guys. Some of the characters and things they’re dealing with always reference to current events, so my character is from a different area than you would think.”

But what does that actually mean?

Baron Zemo, for those of you relatively unfamiliar with the character, is one of Captain America’s biggest and oldest nemeses. Baron Heinrich Zemo is the one responsible, in the comic books, for Bucky’s death. You remember, Bucky? Captain America’s BFF and war partner who went on to become the Winter Soldier? In the comics, Baron Zemo killed him.

It’s his son, however, Baron Helmut Zemo, who’s in the movie. He’s even worse than his father, out on a vendetta to kill the man responsible for destroying his family name — Captain America. Among his greatest achievements was forming the Masters of Evil and then taking over Avengers Mansion, holding Jarvis hostage and coming very close to beating the team. He then went on to form The Thunderbolts in the aftermath of the Onslaught event, that pretty much killed all superheroes for a while.

So we can see that this guy will be a major threat in the film.

And, as he admitted in the interview, it’s more than possible that he’ll be back in future movies. Ayyone else crossing their fingers for some sweet sweet Thunderbolts action?
