Now, it’s unclear whether Sebastian Stan will also appear in Captain America 4 since he co-starred alongside Mackie in Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier this spring. In fact, details regarding the project are incredibly scant. We know that Malcolm Spellman, the creator and the head writer of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, will pen the script with staff writer Dalan Musson. As of now, there’s no director at the helm.
Anthony Mackie has a storied career spanning almost two decades, starting with memorable roles in 2002’s 8 Mile as Papa Doc and 2008’s critically lauded The Hurt Locker as Sergeant JT Sanborn. Mackie’s non-Marvel credits include The Banker opposite fellow Marvel alum Samuel L. Jackson, Netflix’s now-defunct sci-fi series Altered Carbon and this year’s Outside the Wire.
He began his MCU journey in 2014 with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and stole the show in five more Marvel films. His last big-screen comic book appearance was in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, when Steve Rogers handed Sam the shield, passing the Cap mantle onto him.
Personally, I’m so elated that Sam is finally getting his time to shine. Bring on the Sam Wilson Cap era! Sure, he was the lead in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but now he’s getting the blockbuster solo debut he rightfully deserves.
