So much news coming out of the Arrowverse this week. The latest from camp Supergirl is that Bruce Boxleitner (Babylon 5) will be taking over the role of Vice President Baker. Brent Spiner (Star Trek: The Next Generation) was originally cast in that role. Spiner stepped down due to family issues that conflicted with production, according to TV Line.
Boxleitner starred on Babylon 5 for four years and has also been in the television shows NCIS and Heroes. He also co-stared in both Tron and Tron Legacy.
Vice President Baker is described as an “unlikely leader despite holding one of the most significant offices in the country.” I wonder if something will happen to President Marsdin (Lynda Carter). If you recall, Marsdin is a shape shifting alien. A secret to most of the country. In the SDCC trailer, tension is rising against the aliens. Agent Liberty (Sam Witwer) has vowed to take back Earth for humans. So one has to assume that the President’s secret is out.
Boxleitner joins Nicole Maines, who was introduced at SDCC as the first transgender superhero Nia Nal, aka Dreamer. Other casting additions include Rhona Mitra (The Last Ship) as DC villain Mercy Graves, April Parker Jones (The Fosters) as Colonel Haley, and David Ajala (Falling Water) as Manchester Black.
It looks like Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) will have her hands full this year. Boxleitner is an excellent choice to help ease the tension between humans and aliens.
Supergirl season four premieres Sunday October 14 on the CW.
