Gambit is actually coming! The ragin’ cajun has a release date, director and a confirmed star, according to Deadline. The production has had a bumpy ride since 2014 but with this announcement, it seems that things are going full steam ahead! Fans only have to wait a little over a year to see the mutant come to life.

According to the article, the film will keep the original star, Channing Tatum, attached. There had been rumor swirling that he had to leave the project but it appears he’s still on. And seeing as he’s been a big supporter of this project, it’s great to hear that he will still be starring. In addition, we have a release date! February 14th, 2019. So not too far away, eh? And who’s helming the film? Why it’s Gore Verbinski of Pirates of the Caribbean fame. Rumors had started about him joining the project and it appears to be true! With his track record, he seems an excellent choice.

Gambit was created by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee in 1990, making his first appearance in Uncanny X-Men, annual 14. Gambit, otherwise known as Remy LeBeau, is able to take energy from objects and turn it into kinetic energy. Tatum won’t be our first live-action Gambit. The character made an appearance in the poorly received X-Men Origins: Wolverine played by actor Taylor Kitsch. We’re hoping this time around he has a better change at success.
