Who knew Regency-era London could have so much scandal? Shonda Rhimes did, of course! In the very first trailer for her Netflix series Bridgerton, we are introduced to Lady Whistledown (voiced by Julie Andrews). She is on a mission to uncover every scandal of the season. The series is adapted from Julia Quinn‘s bestselling book series of the same name. From the looks of the teaser, we are in for a real treat.

Bridgerton follows Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) as she makes her debut onto London’s marriage market. Her only goal is to find a love match like her parents. Things are going very well until her brother Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) begins to deny every possible suit. No one seems to be good enough for his younger sister. Of course, this draws the attention of the infamous Lady Whistledown and her scandal sheet.

Elsewhere in Bridgerton‘s London, the desirable Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page) has finally returned. Hastings has already decided he will never marry. However, the mothers of every debutante in town think otherwise. But even as they try and force their daughters in his direction, it’s Daphne who finds herself in his company. Even though neither wants what the other has to offer, it’s plain to see the attraction between the two. As sparks fly, the two will find themselves engaged in an increasing battle of wits while also navigating society’s expectations.

The Bridgerton trailer brings up the question of who is Lady Whistledown? We only get to hear her voice as she introduces herself to the people of London. With the social season upon them, she is ready to uncover every scandal and share every last detail. But how does she know everything? And what are her motives? We just have to wait a few more weeks to uncover all the scandal awaiting us. Let’s just say, we can’t wait to dive headfirst into this regency drama.

Bridgerton will air on Netflix starting December 25, 2020. Check out the trailer below!
