Brandon Sanderson‘s year just got a lot more exciting (and stressful). According to Deadline, Sanderson is teaming up with FremantleMedia North America to create a TV series. It’s set to be based off his upcoming YA series, Dark One. But that’s not all! It will also include a graphic novel and podcast series to go along with it. We’re about to get a lot of Sanderson.

According to the article, the book series will be multiple volumes and further explore storylines brought up in the show. The graphic novel will be produced concurrently with the TV series and be published by Vault Comics. And finally the podcast will “shed further light on the incidents leading up to where the TV series will begin”. This multi-media deal is something I haven’t seen done to this extent! It’s exciting – so long as all the pieces come together properly. So what’s it about?

The series will focus on a young man who sees visions of a fantasy world, though he’s told it’s just hallucinations. But this world is real and it’s one he’s prophesized to destroy. How’s that for a twist? Sanderson spoke of bringing the series over multiple platforms, but more especially TV. “I’m used to painting a picture in words. Dark One came to life when I freed myself to think of it as a project for actual visual media, with the setting, characters and outline all coming together”. Personally, I’m a big fan of Sanderson’s work so I’m really looking forward to seeing how this all plays out. We’ll be watching it progress with great interest.
