Very little is known about the upcoming Borderlands film from Lionsgate other than it will be based on the role-playing first-person shooter franchise. That was until Variety shared exclusive casting news from unnamed sources yesterday. They shared that Cate Blanchett is in talks to take on the role of Lilith. While Lionsgate has chosen not to respond to Variety, Gearbox Software, the developers of the franchise have shared the post onto their official Twitter. Of course we know that this doesn’t mean her role is set in stone, but we are excited nonetheless.

Lilith is one of the main protagonists in the Borderlands franchise and a playable character in the original game. She is one of six women known as Sirens. It is said that only six can exist at the same time and they control incredible yet mysterious powers. If Blanchett were to take the role she would be joining director Eli Roth as well as executive producers Randy Pitchford, the founder of Gearbox, and Strauss Zelnick, chairman and CEO of Take-Two Interactive. The screenplay for the movie is being written by Craig Mazin who is also attached to The Last of Us tv series.

Let us know in the comments below and on social media how you feel about Blanchett taking on the role of Lilith. Don’t forget to check back in with us for more news surrounding the upcoming Borderlands film.
