What a happy Star Wars day, friends! According to THR, they’ve learned that James Mangold is currently set to write and direct a stand-alone Star Wars film. But not just any film. One centered around a fan-favorite for decades – the mysterious bounty hunter Boba Fett.

We don’t know much yet about the production as it seems to be in a negotiation period. But apparently Mangold will bring Simon Kinberg over as a producer on the film. It’s a rumor so we won’t take it with more than a grain of salt. And so far that’s all we know. It’s been reiterated that Lucasfilm is also working on an Obi-wan Kenobi stand-alone film but we don’t know much more about that production either.

For a Boba Fett movie – I will say I am tired of them re-using old characters and an old setting. If we want the franchise to expand and evolve, we need to get out of original character territory. Otherwise we’re just looping around and around. But! In the right hands, the film could be really good. And given what Mangold did with Logan, I’m willing to give it a shot. It would be much better to focus on bounty hunters in general but if we have to go head first into a Boba Fett story, I think I’m on board. Especially if they include Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo again.
