On Sunday, we learned from TMZ that beloved actor and comedian Bob Saget, best known as patriarch Danny Tanner in Full House, passed away at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando, Florida. He was 65 years old.

According to TMZ, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to the hotel around 4 pm EST, where, unfortunately, Saget was pronounced dead at the scene. The Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death.

Robert Lane Saget was born on May 17, 1956, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Temple University’s film school, Saget burst onto the television scene in 1981 with a guest role on the Tom Hanks/Peter Scolari-led sitcom Bosom Buddies. He worked throughout the 1980s in various supporting parts until 1987, when he scored the role that would send his star into the stratosphere.

Saget played the widowed broadcaster Danny Tanner on Full House from 1987 to 1995, opposite John StamosDave CoulierCandace Cameron BureJodie SweetinMary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen.

You might also recall Saget hosting America’s Funniest Home Videos from 1989 to 1997.

In 2001, Saget portrayed Matt Stewart on the short-lived sitcom Raising Dad, wherein Kat Dennings played his daughter, Sarah. He was also the Narrator of How I Met Your Mother and played a caricature of himself in a recurring role on HBO’s Entourage.

Saget reprised his role as Danny Tanner in 15 episodes of Netflix’s Fuller House and even waded into podcast territory with Bob Saget’s Here for You

Of course, many knew Saget as a standup comedian, and he recently kicked off a nationwide comedy tour in September of last year, with an end date in June of 2022. On Saturday evening, Saget performed a two-hour set at Ponte Vedra Concert Hall in Jacksonville, Florida.

To say that Saget’s loss blindsided us all would be an understatement. As a middle-aged millennial, I grew up watching Full House and America’s Funniest Home Videos and became obsessed with his delightfully raunchy comedy as an adult. I feel like a piece of my childhood died.

Dear Bob, we love you. Thank you for the decades of laughter, love and warmth. We’ll forever miss you, but I’m grateful that your work stands immortalized for future generations to adore.
