In a recent press release, Blumhouse announced that Kurt Sutter will write, direct and produce the upcoming film This Beast. The movie is a horror outing from Blumhouse and will air on Netflix.

This Beast is inspired by the true story of The Beast of Gévaudan, which was a mysterious creature that “terrorized a French village in the 1760s.” Here’s the logline for the project:

“An 18th century English village is besieged by a mysterious and elusive beast. Dozens of innocents are slaughtered and the mayhem is driven to puritanical heights by religious fanaticism. The impossible task of killing the beast falls to a lowly trapper who promises he can stop the carnage. But for him this hunt is not a professional mission, it’s a deeply personal one.”

Jason Blum will produce for Blumhouse and Carla Hacken will produce under her banner Paper Pictures. Chris McCumber and Jeremy Gold will executive produce.

This film will be Sutter’s feature directorial debut. In the release, Sutter is quoted as saying “Bringing my disturbing, familial story sensibility into the Blumhouse world just seemed like something that had to happen. And This Beast is the perfect project for that marriage. And Netflix is the perfect venue for that bloody ceremony.”

In the same release, Jason Blum, the CEO and founder of Blumhouse said, “We’ve long been fans of Kurt and his unparalleled storytelling that’s both visceral and packs an emotional punch. We’re excited that Blumhouse is producing his first feature for Netflix.”

The story of The Beast of Gévaudan has often been attributed to many of the current werewolf mythos including the belief that werewolves are sensitive to silver and can be killed by silver bullets. Horror lovers, prepare for this fascinating story to be brought to life!
