Blumhouse released a first-look image of Ryan Kiera Armstrong as Charlie McGee in its upcoming remake of Firestarter! This image also serves as the announcement for Armstrong’s casting. The film also stars Zac Efron as Charlie’s father, Andy McGee and Michael Greyeyes is taking on the role of Rainbird.
Production began in March 2021, but it was unknown who had been cast to play the young pyrokinetic protagonist. Firestarter is a remake of the 1984 film starring Drew Barrymore as Charlie. Both films are adaptations of a classic Stephen King novel by the same name. Scott Teems has adapted the script. Jason Blum along with Academy Award winner Akiva Goldsmith are producing this version of Firestarter. Martha De Laurentiis, who worked on the original film, is an executive producer on the film.
Armstrong already has an impressive resume within the horror genre appearing in titles such as IT: Chapter II and American Horror Story before being cast in Firestarter. She was born in 2010 in New York and is the youngest of five children. Her acting career started early, at only five years old. Talented from the beginning, her first audition landed her first booking and her first recurring role. Outside of acting, Armstrong enjoys swimming, drawing, playing rep soccer and school. Armstrong is represented by Innovative Artists and Noble Caplan Abrams.
Here is the official logline: “A young girl develops pyrokinetic abilities and is abducted by a secret government agency that wants to harness her powerful gift as a weapon.”
