The Bluey Phenomenon
The animated adventures of Bluey, a loveable, inexhaustible blue heeler dog, and her family have captured the hearts around the world in nothing short of a global phenomenon. Premiering in Australia on October 1, 2018, Bluey‘s charm and humor tap unerringly into multiple levels of audience engagement. Disney bought the international broadcast rights in June 2019. It premiered on Disney Junior on September 9 that year.

Disney+ released the first season in January 2020. Now available in 140 countries, Bluey was Disney+’s most-watched series globally in 2024. It is also the year’s No. 1 most-watched series on streaming to date through November among total viewers in the U.S.
In addition to the three seasons of classic eight-minute-long Bluey episodes (including the slightly controversial 28-minute episode, “The Sign”), three blocks of “minisodes” dropped this year. The minisodes run from one to three minutes each. If you need to immerse yourself (and the kids, too, of course) in all things Bluey, Bluey’s Big Play debuted in Australian theaters in 2019 and is touring the world. And because there can never be enough Bluey influence in one’s life, Bluey books, music and merchandise abound online, spreading the joy of keepy-uppy and magic asparagus worldwide.
Bluey: The Movie
A Bluey movie is the obvious next frontier for our intrepid Heeler family. Straight from the mouth of creator Joe Brumm, “I really enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format on ‘The Sign’ in Series 3, so going even further with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that. I’ve always thought Bluey deserved a theatrical movie. I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together.”

Brumm will write and direct the Ludo Studio production with BBC Studios. Vocal talent confirmed to participate in the movie includes Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack as parents Chilli and Bandit Heeler. Bluey composer Joff Bush will compose the score. The only potential departure from the style of the O.G. Bluey is the proposed CG animation, helmed by Amber Naismith. Disney plans to release it in cinemas globally in 2027, with the film streaming on all the usual platforms post-theatrical release. Wackadoo!
Bluey and the Bluey minisodes stream on Disney+ and air on Disney Junior.
