Sources at both Heroic Hollywood and at The Tracking Board are claiming that a team-up movie featuring Booster Gold and Blue Beetle is in the works.

Before we move on, this is not confirmed by DC or by WB or by any of the people involved.

Also, just because it’s in development doesn’t mean we’ll ever see it, just that it’s being worked on as a possibility.

That being said…
This is awesome.

First of all, we’ll be getting a completely different voice attached to this film. According to Tracking Board, the people behind it are not surprising but still a departure from the Zack Snyder/David Goyer crew. Apparently, WB is happy with CW producer Greg Berlanti, responsible for Arrow, The Flash and the upcoming Supergirl and he will “be heavily involved with this one, set to direct and executive produce.”

Blue Beetle and Booster Gold are typically a more comedic pair. As the article states, “the film will team the two heroes together in what’s being pitched as a superhero buddy cop movie.” Beyond just seeing a Booster Gold/Blue Beetle movie, it would be fun to finally see WB put some comedy into their DC Comics universe, something very sorely lacking from all of their films up to this point.

Who is Booster Gold? Well, he’s a total showboat, full of ego and snark, and resembles Tony Stark in a lot of ways. Except that he’s actually a time traveler named Jon Carter from the 25th century where he was a football hero until he was disgraced due to gambling. Now a much maligned character, he stole some superhero relics from the past and traveled back in time to become a famous superhero. Though he eventually becomes an actual superhero, he also still allows for corporate sponsorship of his heroics.

Hilarious, right?

So what about Blue Beetle? He’s a tech genius named Ted Kord who discovered, while in college, that his Uncle was an evil scientist who wanted to destroy the world, so he then went to one of his professor friends, Dan Garret, for help in bringing his uncle down and then discovered that his professor was actually the original Golden Age Blue Beetle. Kord now carries on the legacy of The Blue Beetle through all of his tech and gadgets.

And now, a report out of Heroic Hollywood claims that Marvel scribe, Zak Penn, is being eyed to write the script for the film. Penn’s credits include X-Men: The Last Stand, The Incredible Hulk and story credit on The Avengers.
