Sadness from the live-action trailer for The Medium

Bloober Teams is working hard to bring us some of the best trailers we have seen in video game history. Everything so far has nailed down just how haunting the upcoming horror game The Medium will truly be. And now they have truly outdone themselves. They have released a two and half minute live-action trailer created in cooperation with award-winning VFX and animation studio Platige Image. Tomasz Bagiński served as writer and creative producer while Paweł Maślona directed.

If you didn’t tell me that this was a live-action trailer, I would have never known the difference. Bloober Teams have done such a fantastic job with the graphics on The Medium that it already looks incredibly life-like. The trailer really brings to life the game’s unique art style inspired by Zdzisław Beksiński. We are introduced to Marianna, an enigmatic man named Thomas, a spirit called Sadness and the terrifying monster The Maw.

The Medium live-action trailer does a beautiful job of showing off one of the key parts of the upcoming game – the ability to shift Marianna between the worlds and the living and the dead. Watching as the world shifts and the atmosphere changes give me chills. I can not wait to experience the ability to shift between worlds in-game and to get scared watching as The Maw stalks towards me without actually seeing him. I’ve got to say that if they ever decided to create a live-action film of the game, Tomasz Bagiński is definitely their guy.

The Medium is a third-person psychological horror game that follows protagonist Marianne. She is a medium who has the ability to travel between the world of the living and the dead. Marianne is haunted by a vision of a child’s murder. She sets off to investigate and her clues lead her to an abandoned hotel that hides a dark secret. Players will be traversing through both the world of the living and the world of the dead.

The Medium will release on January 28, 2021, for PC through Steam, Xbox Series X, Epic Games Store and Microsoft.
