Things got a bit gritty during the BlizzConline opening ceremony today. A few weeks ago, we learned from Blizzard Entertainment that Diablo IV and Overwatch 2 would not be released in 2021, but that didn’t mean we wouldn’t hear news about the games. What I didn’t expect was to learn that they have added yet another playable class to Diablo IV. We learned that the rogue would be joining already announced classes barbarian, sorceress, and druid in an intense and dark announcement trailer.

The Diablo IV rogue announcement trailer opens as a priest of Akarat is speaking to a parishioner about the Light when a hooded figure appears behind him in the pews. He recognizes who she is and tells her that this isn’t the time. She doesn’t seem to care as she starts placing ears onto the back of the priest’s pew. She shares that she was born into the shadows and stole from those more fortunate. The trailer flips between the two sitting within the church to shots of the rogue taking out her prey and pickpocketing.

She asks the priest if Akarat will save her. He says that she mocks the light, but really she was the answer to the prayers of the monsters she killed. It turns out that she was on a mission for the priest as she requests her payment in the form of a name. But the Diablo IV trailer doesn’t give it to us, leading to yet another mystery. As the theatrical portion of the trailer ends, it transitions into clips of rogue gameplay, showing how powerful this class can become. We have a mix of ranged and melee attacks to create a unique playing experience.

The Diablo IV trailer comes to a close in one of the eeriest moments I have seen (and I live to play horror games). The priest takes the ears left behind by the rogue and hooks them in a cabinet alongside more than a dozen other ears. It was hinted that these ears will actually have meaning in the game. Can you imagine going out on a mission and bringing back the ear of someone you killed or threatened? Pretty gruesome and so very Diablo.

We can’t wait to get our hands on this class! Check out the trailer below and let us know what class you will play! Hopefully, we will have more news soon when Diablo IV will officially release. Be sure to check back with us for more news!
