During BlizzConline this weekend, we got the chance to see what was coming next for Blizzard Entertainment‘s IPs (intellectual properties). Diablo IV announced that the rogue would be a playable class when it launches; World of Warcraft: Shadowlands shared its major content patch 9.1 Chains of Domination and even Hearthstone shared its next expansion. But that isn’t what stole the show (at least for me and nearly everyone on Twitter). The announcement that Diablo II is back with Diablo II: Resurrected is what had me on the edge of my seat. The trailer brings with it a wave of nostalgia that fans can’t stop talking about.

This definitive remastering will feature both the original game and its expansion Lord of Destruction. The remaster takes the original 2D sprites and brings them to the present-day with 3D physically-based rendering, dynamic lighting and updated animations and spell effects. But the gameplay isn’t the only thing seeing a facelift; all 27 minutes of the game’s cinematics will be remade. Each one will be reshot from the ground up. Blizzard’s art cinematic teams have come so far and I can’t wait to see how they are reimagined.

Even though Diablo II: Resurrected may look like a brand new game, the gameplay side is completely intact. All of the original gameplay and systems are completely intact. Blizzard did make a few updates for the highly-requested quality of life improvements, such as shared stash. For those who want to experience a more nostalgic experience, players will be able to swap back to the game’s original graphics. This option can be swapped back and forth at the touch of a button! The game will also feature cross-platform progression so new and return players can experience the game on their platform of choice.

Diable II: Resurrected will launch later this year on PC through Battle.Net, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and the Nintendo Switch. Check out the trailer below to be surrounded by a wave of nostalgia. How excited are you to dive back into this gritty, dark world? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
